How does buying Groundcover News help?

Personally – I support myself on my writing and paper sales. If you become my regular customer you will literally be keeping food on my table and a roof over my head. Groundcover News is a bridge between you and the homeless in our area. Establishing personal relations with vendors not only helps them financially, but emotionally and spiritually. Mental health is dependent on human-to-human connection. Getting to know the vendor is meeting their need to belong. When you purchase a paper, you become important to someone. When you read the paper, they become important to you.

Locally – GCN advertises for local businesses. If you want to be a contributing member of the Ypsilanti community, check out the places that advertise with us! GCN vendors are all locals, so the money we make goes back into the community.

Culturally – the stigmas of homelessness actually make it harder for people with lived experience to lift themselves out of poverty. The lack of priority of human services is due to cold and misguided reception of society’s rejects from the system. Many people suffer mental illness or come from homes that were fatally unsupportive become homeless in a way that could have been prevented. GCN exposes such stories. Understanding this not only combats prejudice and bias, but also becomes a call to action. Whether to the individual or the homeless population. Read all about it today!

Globally – Groundcover News is part of the International Network of Street Papers. This network represents more than 100 papers from 30 countries across the globe. All providing voice, opportunity and solutions for people experiencing homelessness anywhere in the world.
